Philadelphia Flyers Team Information
The city of Philadelphia had already seen a NHL team based in their city before the Flyers arrived. This was in the 1930-31 season when the Philadelphia Quakers made their debut appearance. They never played again and the franchise was shut down on 1936. 30 years would have to go by before the city would have another NHL team. In 1966 the NHL awarded Philadelphia with another franchise. This time the name chosen was the Philadelphia Flyers, mostly because the feeling that surrounded the whole event by that time.
Some of the Flyers greatest moments were on 1980, when they established a North American Sports record that still lives today. They went undefeated for 35 straight games.
Then in 1985 the Philadelphia team established another NHL record with 40 wins. Pelle Lindbergh won the Vezina Trophy. Unfortunately, the team would lose this valuable player later that year after a terrible car accident, just a month after the 1985-86 season started.
Ten years later the Flyers would win their first division championship in eight years fueled by their "Legion of Doom". This was a mix of talent with physical intimidation. This line included names such as LeClais, Mikael Renberg and Eric "The Big E" Lindros. Sadly the Flyers would lose the finals of the Eastern Conference finals to the New Jersey Devils.
In 1997, the team would reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in ten years. This time their rival would be the Detroit Red Wings, who would sweep the Flyers in four straight games.
