Just after the New Orleans Hornets left for New Orleans in 2002, the NBA awarded the city of Charlotte with an expansion franchise that would be bought by Black Entertainment Television owner Robert Johnson. He became the first majority black owner of any major professional sport.

Named after the team owner 'Bob', the Charlotte Bobcats have proven in their short life on the NBA, that they might be a new team but they are definitely not a pushover team. With Rookie of the Year for 2004-05 season, Emeka Okafor, the Bobcats have solidly built a team that seems to have a bright future. With an excellent salary cap and the third pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, which they used to get Adam Morrison, Gonzaga University's best player, the fans have great expectations for their team.
