Football Betting Rules
Football betting, especially
pro football betting, is one of the most popular
choices of our players. The main professional league
is the National Football League, who’s seventeen-week
regular season runs from September to December each
year. There follows one month of playoffs until
the eventual Champion is decided at the Super Bowl,
the single biggest day in American Sports.
The main action on American football games is in
pointspread, or line, betting, where the sportsbook
decides on a margin of victory for the favorite
that will make either team an attractive betting
proposition. Consider the example below:
|
New York Giants |
+3 |
-110 |
Green Bay Packers |
-3 |
-110 |
In the example, the spread is set at three points.
The +3.0 after the New York Giants means that the
Giants are the underdog in this game; the Giants
must either win, or not lose by more than three
points, for a bet on the Giants to win.
The –3.0 after the Green Bay Packers means
that the Packers are the favorite; the Packers must
win by more than three points for a bet on the Packers
to win.
If the Packers win by exactly three points, then
the bet is said to have fallen on the spread and
is deemed a push. All bets are voided and the stakes
returned in this instance.
The second number, -110, after each team is the
price of a winning bet. A winning bettor will win
$100 for every $110 bet.
For a football game to have action, the game must
be played for at least 55 minutes actual play. Overtime
counts if played, and there are a selection of related
betting markets to add extra value, choice and excitement,
such as totals, moneyline, winning margin betting,
and the like.
NFL & NCAA Football Betting & Rules
Sportbet.com will always be one of the first
to offer lines for betting on the NFL, College,
CFL, Arena Football, as well as all the pre-season
games. In both, the NCAA and NFL, we offer 1st
half and 2nd half bets. In the NFL, lines will
be offered on every single quarter. All lines
for the following week are posted at the end of
the current week's games. Along with the regular
game lines, you can also bet on futures and in
excess of 500 weekly NFL and NCAA proposition
bets.
Straight Football Bets
See Example Below. When betting on KANSAS CITY,
you must win by at least 7 points to win your bet.
When betting on DENVER you cannot lose by more than
6 points to win the bet. If the line was exactly
-6, and Kansas City wins by exactly 6 points, then
the bet is a "push", and stake or money
is returned to your account. (total bets): When
betting on the total score of a game, you must take
the OVER or the UNDER. Regardless of the outcome,
the combined score of the two teams will determine
if you win or lose your bet. Remember, overtime
will always count for the 2 nd half and full game
wagers. If you bet Denver to go OVER 40, and the
final score is 28-12, your bet is a “push”,
and the money will be returned to your account.
| Team |
Money Line |
Spread |
Total |

Kansas City |

|
Football Money Line Bets
When betting on the money
line, you must win the game straight up in order
to win your bet. Betting on KANSAS CITY -290 means
you must risk $290 to win $100. It does not matter
by how many points KC wins, just that they win.
Betting on DENVER +240, you stake $100 to win $240.
Again, in this case, Denver just needs to win straight
up.
IN THE EVENT OF A POSTPONED OR SUSPENDED GAME, ALL
FOOTBALL GAMES ARE CONSIDERED FINAL AFTER 55 MINUTES
OF PLAY

reverts to a lower number (i.e., a 4 team teaser
with one tie and three wins will revert to a three
team teaser bet, with its corresponding pay-out).
The exception will be the two team teaser in the
event of a win and a tie it will be graded as a
push. Any loss will make the teaser a loser. Over
the internet, Teasers are limited to 8 teams, and
also to a specific payout:
Football Teasers bets: 6 pts, 61⁄2 pts, 7

Football Pleaser Bet Rules:
Pleaser bets are similar to a teaser bets, only you give, versus receive additional points; additional points are either subtracted from the underdog or added to the favorite (e.g., if the regular line on your selection is -4 and you select a pleaser, then your line would be -10). Pleasers are currently only available on NFL side bets combined with additional NFL side bets. (click here for odds info)
Pleaser bet payoffs depend on how many teams are in your wager. Payoffs are shown in the table below. If there is a tie in one or more of your individual parts then the bet steps down to the next lowest number of teams.
A 2 team pleaser bet with one tie is a push.

Football Player vs. Player Game Match-Ups:
