Baseball Betting Rules

Baseball is the great summer sport of the United States, and the 162 game regular season of Major League Baseball, running from April to September, offers many betting opportunities to the sportsman. The most important person in a baseball game is the pitcher, which is why no baseball betting line is posted without naming the starting pitcher. Both starting pitchers much make at least one pitch for the game to be considered "action". If there is a change of one or other of the starting pitchers, all runline and total bets are voided and the stakes returned, while an odds adjustment takes place on the moneyline prices.

Houston Astros: W. Miller
+1.5
-190
St. Louis Cardinals: M. Morris
-1.5
+160

In the example above, Houston, with Wade Miller as their pitcher, is the underdog, as indicated by the plus (+) sign in the runline. These figures mean that anyone betting on Houston wins if Houston either wins or doesn’t lose to St Louis by more than 1.5 runs. The second number, -190, is the price – this means that the if Houston wins or doesn’t lose by more than 1.5 runs the bettor wins $100 for every $190 wagered.

In the second line St Louis, with Matt Morris as their pitcher, must win by more than 1.5 runs for the bet to win. In this event, the bettor wins $160 for every $100 wagered.

Baseball betting offers markets in the moneyline, runline (the same principle as pointspread betting) and totals. The game must go to the losing team’s 5th inning at least for the moneyline to be considered "action". In runline or totals betting, the game must go to nine innings (or 8.5 if the home team is ahead) to be considered "action". Extra innings will count in the final result for all bets. When betting on the moneyline, there are two options available:

You may choose ‘action’ - the bet has action regardless of which pitcher starts.

You may choose ‘no action’ - both listed pitchers must start for the bet to have action. In the event of a pitching change prior to the game, moneyline bets chosen as 'action' will stand but the price of the bet may be adjusted to the opening price with the new pitchers. Bets chosen as 'no action' will be void in the event either pitcher listed at the time of the bet does not start. All games must start on the scheduled date for bets to have 'action'. If a game has been postponed or cancelled before its due start time, all bets are deemed 'no action'.

Baseball Betting & Rules

Sportbet.com posts all MLB and NCAA World Series lines the night before the scheduled game. When betting on baseball, you have the option of choosing to bet on a money line or a total. With MLB you also have the option of betting on the run line or the 1 st five inning line (side and total).

With a Money Line bet, you are choosing a team to win, regardless of the score. When betting on the money line, you will need to select one of four types of betting options. they are: Listed Pitchers, Selected Pitcher, Team vs. Pitcher, or Action.

Listed Pitchers (LP): Both pitchers scheduled to start at the time of your bet must pitch. If both starting pitchers do not throw at least one pitch, the bet will be ruled "no action”, and the money will be returned to your account.

Selected Pitcher (ST): The pitcher for the team which you choose must start in order for your bet to have action, regardless of who pitches for the opposing team. If the selected pitcher does not throw at least one pitch, the bet will be ruled "no action”, and the money will be returned to your account.

Team vs. Pitcher (TP): The pitcher for the opposing team of which you choose must start in order for your bet to have action, regardless who pitches for the team you select. If the opposing pitcher does not throw at least one pitch, the wager will be ruled "no action”, and the money will be returned to your account.

Action (A): This is a bet on sports team vs. team, regardless who pitches. If one of the listed pitchers does not start the game, the line will be adjusted to the opening line with the new pitcher.

A pitcher is deemed the starting pitcher after throwing the first pitch of the game for his team. Baseball games are declared official after 5 innings of play or 4 1/2 innings if the home team is winning. If a game is called or suspended, the winner is determined by the score after the last full inning unless the home team scores to tie or take the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the winner is determined by the score at the time the game is called. Bets will be refunded if the home team ties the game and it is then suspended. Events will not carry over to the following day, unless otherwise specified.

For total (over/under) bets : The game must complete nine innings (8 1/2 if the home team is winning) to have action. If a game is called or suspended, the score will be determined by the last full inning unless the home team scores to tie or take the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the score is determined at the time the game is called. All total bets are automatically both listed pitchers (see below).

Baseball Proposition Bets:

  • For bets on Total Hits+Runs+Errors in the game , Both starting pitchers must go for action. Game must go 8½ innings if home team is winning or 9 innings if road team is winning for action. Extra innings counts. If a game goes past 9 innings and is not completed no action.
  • For bets on Team to score first and a Run scored in the first inning , Both starting pitchers must go for action.

  • For bets on Total Bases Matchups , Single=1base, Double=2bs, Triple=3bs, HR=4bs. Hits Only. Both players+starting pitchers must start for action.

  • For wagers on Player proposition bets, BOTH players must START for action.

Baseball Series Betting:

  • Bets on a series are based on the FIRST THREE GAMES PLAYED of each series. Neither team can play another opponent between scheduled games, or the wager is graded NO ACTION. If one of the first three games gets postponed, all wagers stand (ACTION).

  • If less than three games are played, the team with the most number of wins is the winner of the series. In the event that a series is only two games, and each team wins one game, the wager will be graded as a push. All wagers are based on action (no listed pitchers).
