Buffalo Bills Outlook for 2010

Heading into this season with an offense that was ranked 30th overall and a defense that was ranked 19th overall last season, there are plenty of question marks that still need to be answered on this team. They brought in former Cowboy head coach Chan Gailey to try and right the ship but it remains to be seen whether or not he has the proper deck hands to do it.

One of their first moves this off season was signing 12 year veteran OT Cornell Green as a free agent to help anchor the offensive line. They went for a playmaker with the ninth overall pick in the draft by selecting RB C.J. Spiller from Clemson. They are hoping Spiller can come in right away and add a spark to a rather anemic offense. He could be paired with Marshawn Lynch in the backfield provided that Lynch is still with the team when the season begins.

Defensively the Bills are relying on a strong draft to improve a line that was ranked 30th against the run last year. Starting with DT Torell Troup from Central Florida, taken in the second round and DE Alex Carrington from Arkansas State, a third round pick they drafted four defensive linemen with their nine total picks.

Gailey’s biggest challenge could be deciding on which quarterback will be his starter come opening day. With Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Brian Brohm all on the roster, he is hoping one of these guys emerges as the clear choice. Buffalo does have some talent on their team, but not enough to compete with the other three teams in the East. This season will most likely be a slight step backwards for the Bills as they will struggle to match their win total from last season.

2010 Buffalo Bills Prediction: 5-11, fourth place in the AFC East.
