Villanova kicks off a Big Monday with another road contest against a top 10 conference team. Georgetown had their way with the Wildcats on Saturday and even though they stormed back in the second half to make the Hoyas sweat a little the game was never really in doubt. Villanova needs a strong bounceback if they are going to maintain their elite status and the formula is simple. Ride guards Scottie Reynolds, Corey Fisher and Corey Stokes and try and overwhelm their opponent – it has worked every time but two so far. Villanova will once again be over matched in the frontcourt against the Mountaineers so they are going to have to win this game by setting the pace, shooting well and slowing down WVU’s dynamic duo.
West Virginia seems to be lying in the weeds waiting for their moment and this could be it. If they pounce on the Wildcats on national TV then could be in the top three next week. It is no secret that they are led by the dynamic duo of Da’Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks up front but now you can add Deniz Kilicli to the equation. He is a bulky European import who had to sit out until recently due to eligibility issues but his skill and size make the Mountaineers front line one of the best in the country. He will slowly but surely get more time in the rotation. The weak link for WVU is a starting backcourt that only averages 16 points per game. In this game they may not need to score much but they will have to make sure WVU can get into their offense.
The current line on this one is West Virginia -5.5.
This game should be a delight as two very good teams with contrasting strengths battle each other. I don’t see the Wildcats coming out flat again in fact I see an upset that proves they really are among the national elite.
