UAB Coach: Mike Davis – At UAB: 85-48, 4 years; overall: 200-126, 10 years
UAB Players to Watch: Aaron Johnson is one of the league’s best distributors and he has the shooting eye to score more points. He’ll get the chance this year, since the Blazers need an offensive boost.
UAB Key Losses: Elijah Millsap, G, 6-6, 210 (16.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg); Howard Crawford, F, 6-8, 240 (11.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg); George Drake, G, 6-4, 215 (6.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg)

2010-2011 UAB Season Preview
Some schools look at the NIT as a consolation prize, and considering that UAB has’ been a rather steady NCAA Tourney participant over the past decade, the Blazers probably look at a berth in the NIT as a step down, too. But given the loss of four of last year’s top scorers, including guard Elijah Millsap, who left early for the NBA, an NIT invite will be pretty sweet this year in Birmingham. Seniors J amarr Sanders and Aaron Johnson don’t want to hear that, but it’s true. UAB will be a first-division Conference USA team and hopes to find its way into the postseason, with any eye on bigger things down the road. Coach Mike Davis has a team that lacks proven scoring, needs help on the backboards and may not shoot it all that well. But if newcomers Quincy Taylor and Preston Purifoy emerge, this could be a team nobody wants to face come February. The backcourt should be in good shape, thanks to the returns of Johnson and Sanders. Johnson is an excellent distributor, but must cut down on the turnovers and needs to score more. He’s quite a pest defensively and has good shooting range when left open. Sanders is good from long range but must get better everywhere else. He has a good handle, can stick people on D and rebounds well. They’ll be fortified by 6-1 freshman Quincy Taylor, a top-shelf point who can shoot, makes good decisions and is tough. Redshirt freshman Robert Williams scored 20 a game in high school and gained some strength and experience sitting out last year, while sophomore Dexter Fields is a long-range threat. The Blazers will be raw up front, and that means plenty of newcomers have to perform. Purifoy is a good shooter who can defend, while redshirt freshman Anthony Criswell will be looked to for help inside. Junior Cameron Moore can rebound and score close to the basket, but needs more strength and toughness. Seven-footer Beas Hamga, who comes to UAB via UNLV, Valparaiso and Weatherford (Texas) College, can block shots and rebound.
