NHL Playoff Preview – Can the Caps Come Back at Home?

Online Sportsbook Overview

Things were not supposed to go like this for the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers. Neither team was supposed to be tangled in a fierce battle in the second round of the playoffs, especially with each other. The Capitals slid into the playoffs and were supposed to be dispatched by the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins. Even the best sportsbook online did not give the Capitals much of a chance of winning a game from the Bruins, much less the entire series. But by the time the series was over, the Bruins were sent packing and the Capitals went on to the second round.

The New York Rangers were the best team in the Eastern Conference all season long. The Rangers were supposed to slam in to the playoffs and destroy the Ottawa Senators in the first round. The price per head sportsbook experts had the Rangers as the odds-on favorite to win it all this season. But the Rangers needed overtime in the seventh game to beat the Senators and nowNew York is facing down game six with those pesky Capitals. It is funny how things can sometimes work out in a manner that no one expected but yet it still grabs everyone’s interest.

NHL Playoff Preview – The Capitals Continue to Surprise Everyone

Sports Betting Overview

The Washington Capitals were not supposed to beat the Boston Bruins in the first round of the NHLplayoffs. But Washingtonrookie goalie Braden Holtby got hot as Bostongoalie Tim Thomas cooled off and the Capitals sent the defending champion packing. Then the online betting sites said that the Capitals would get swept by the New York Rangers in the second round of the playoffs. In game one, it seemed like that may be the case. But then the Capitals bore down and slowed the Rangers almost to a halt in game two and came away with the win. Holtby continues to impress and the Capitals are not getting swept by the New York Rangers in the second round of theNHL playoffs.

To the price per head bookie experts, it almost looks like the New York Rangers are making things more difficult than they need to be in these playoffs. There is no way that the eighth seeded Ottawa Senators would take the first seed New York Rangers to a seventh and deciding game in theNHL playoffs. Yet, that is exactly what happened. The Rangers are still having a problem consistently scoring goals, and it could cost them dearly in this series. As the series shifts toWashington, there is a lot forNew York fans to be concerned about.

NHL Playoff Preview – Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 4 – Can Philly Complete the Upset?

Sports Betting Overview

To say that the sports world is still reeling from the 3-0 series deficit that the Pittsburgh Penguins are experiencing against the Philadelphia Flyers is a massive understatement. When the NHLseason was winding down, the Penguins were fast becoming the odds-on favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The online betting sites got even more interested inPittsburgh when captain Sidney Crosby made his successful return to the ice after over a year of concussion troubles. But a familiar ghost started haunting the Penguins when the playoffs began, and it is something thatPittsburgh must look into fixing for next year. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has been a playoff disappointment for yet another playoff run.

When the Flyers brought in goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov in the offseason from Phoenix, the fans in Philadelphiawere already celebrating a Stanley Cup victory. But the pay per head sportsbook experts were a little wary of Bryzgalov, and their fears were realized as the season wore on. Bryzgalov is inconsistent and eccentric. He did not play in the Winter Classic because it was too cold. Throughout the game, the television coverage would show him on the bench wrapped in a blanket with a pot of tea. Bryzgalov has been able to come through forPhiladelphia in the playoffs. But he is getting a lot of help from Fleury in all of his playoff wins.

NHL Playoff Preview – Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game Two – The Penguins Try to Regroup in Game Two

Online Sportsbook Overview

All the Penguins could do when game one of its Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the Philadelphia Flyers was over was look at each other and wonder what happened. When game one started in Pittsburgh, the Penguins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. It was just as everyone had expected. The Penguins’ offense was too fast for the slower Philadelphiadefense, and Flyers’ goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was not the playoff answer the Flyers were hoping for. The sports betting crowd was looking at a rout by a Pittsburgh team that is expected to be the favorite to win the Stanley Cup this season by a wide margin. Then things started to change.

The second period ended with Pittsburghholding confidently on to a 3-1 lead. But it was becoming apparent that the physical play of the Flyers was wearing the Penguins down. The only thing these two teams like about each other is hitting each other. The Penguins do not back down from physical play, but the Flyers were relentless. The price per head sports experts also noticed that Bryzgalov was sharp in the net. By the time the third period was over, the Penguins had allowed the Flyers to tie the game 3-3. In overtime, the Flyers won the game on a goal by Jakub Voracek. This sets up a very interesting game two.

NHL Western Quarterfinals Game 1 – The Kings Crown the Canucks in the Opening Game

Sports Betting Overview

They say that the regular season does not mean anything when the NHL playoffs begin. The truth is that trends and patterns that occur in the regular season can be used to help predict playoff outcomes. But if you want to disregard the regular season to predict how this first game of the series between the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks will play out, then the Canucks’ recent playoff history is not very reassuring for Vancouver fans. If you are betting on these playoffs without considering the regular season, then you can look at the last three years which have seen the Canucks bounced out of the playoffs with no championship.

In Vancouver’s defense, the team did reach the Stanley Cup finals last year despite another tumultuous playoff run from goaltender Roberto Luongo. The price per head sports experts will always point at Luongo’s playoff failures as the key indicator for the fate of the Canucks. Luongo has played brilliantly in some playoff games, but his performance in key games has been suspect for many years now. The Canucks are hoping that this is the year that Luongo gets the playoff monkey off of his back and helps take Vancouver to its first Stanley Cup victory in team history.

NHL Game Preview for Friday March 30, 2012 – Pittsburgh Penguins @ Buffalo Sabres

Online Sportsbook Overview

Few teams in the NHLhave been better than the Buffalo Sabres over the past couple of months, except for maybe the Pittsburgh Penguins. While the NCAA basketball betting was going on, the Sabres climbed from 15th place immediately after the All-Star break all the way up to eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The team has been winning on the road and at home. Goaltender Ryan Miller has suddenly found his form and the team has lined up right behind him. The Sabres have run in to some injury problems again as defensemen Christian Ehrhoff and Andrej Sekera were put on the injury list in the Sabres’ win over the Washington Capitals. But the Sabres have shown amazing depth in this run and have been able to plug in injured starters with minor league replacements without missing a beat.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were red hot before Sidney Crosby made his way back on to the roster. After over a year of repeated concussion issues, Crosbyis finally a stable member of the team and contributing. The price per head sports experts have been ready to give theNHL MVP award to Penguins’ star Evgeni Malkin all season long. Even withCrosby back in the lineup, Malkin has been a force that other teams seem unable to contend with. The only thing Malkin will need to be careful of is that it was a late season game againstBuffalo last year that put him out of the lineup for the playoffs. The Penguins are hoping that there is no repeat of that situation in this game.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday March 28, 2012 – Los Angeles Kings @ Calgary Flames

Sports Betting Overview

There are still some very good playoff races in the NHLthat will come down to the last game of the season. As the NHLseason enters its last week, many teams are still fighting for the right to be in the post-season. This time of the year is always filled with college basketball betting and the anticipation of theNHL playoffs. As the Western Conference teams continue to jockey for position, the fate of the Los Angeles Kings is not yet decided. Even after adding Mark Richards and Jeff Carter from the Philadelphia Flyers, the Kings can still not score goals and have problems winning games. It is getting frustrating for the fans and team executives inLos Angeles to try and figure out what is going wrong.

The Calgary Flames are making a late season push to try and bolt itself into playoff contention. The Flames are only two points out of seventh place in the Western Conference and the team is playing very well. The price per head bookie experts did not expectCalgary to still be in contention this late in the season. But now thatCalgary has put itself in a position to grab a playoff spot, it needs to keep winning down the stretch to get into one of the last two playoff spots that are up for grabs.Calgary has been getting superb goaltending lately and that has helped to propel the team into the playoff hunt.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday March 21, 2012 – Vancouver Canucks @ Chicago Blackhawks

Online Sportsbook Overview

This is the time of the year when the Vancouver Canucks kick things in to high gear just in time to disappoint fans in the playoffs again. But this season is something different. Rather than stampeding towards the playoffs, the Canucks are limping into the post-season. As the March Madness spreads for the next round in the NCAA tournament get announced, the Canucks are actually struggling to finish the season strong. Fans inVancouver should not worry about the Canucks’ standing in the Western Conference becauseVancouver has a huge lead in the Pacific Division and a lock on second place in the Western Conference. ButVancouver is not making a push to overtake the St. Louis Blues for the Western Conference lead and that may be a good thing for the Canucks.

Every team from the Central Division, with the exception of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is making the playoffs this season. The Chicago Blackhawks still have a chance to move up to fourth in the Western Conference but no chance of catching the Blues for the Central Division lead. Considering how the season started for the Blackhawks, being in sixth place in the conference with a comfortable six-point pad between itself an the eighth place teams is a pretty good accomplishment. But even with some consistency in its game as of late, the price per head sports experts are still not sure how the Blackhawks will fare when the playoffs begin.
