British Open odds are backing Padraig Harrington to put up a good fight when the 138th edition of the Open Championship tees off on Thursday, but the Irishman has had an awful season despite his recent win in the Irish PGA Championship. Here is a look at the top five British players who could replace Harrington.

Ian Poulter probably has the best chance to win, even though he isn’t the highest-rated player with British Open odds of +2600. But he finished second in last year’s Open, and he’s finished in the top 20 of both majors so far this season. Poulter has all the talent in the world and will eventually win a major, but he’ll have to be better off the tee and with his putting to be one of your sports picks this week.
Lee Westwood hasn’t made the top 30 in a British Open since 2004, when he came in fourth. He is coming off a 23rd-place result in the US Open, and he’s coming off two straight top-10s on the European Tour. Former Blago Fundraiser Faces Sentencing
Christopher Kelly, former fundraiser for ex-governor Rod Blagojevich, will be sentenced today on the first series of charges he’s already pleaded guilty to, with two more sets of charges he’s already pleaded not-guilty to. Today, Kelly will be sentenced for using work funds to pay off gambling debts and pay for his house and for personal expenses. He’s still to face charges related to a roofing deal at O’Hare and racketeering charges with Blagojevich. Federal prosecutors have been hoping they would get cooperation from Kelly in their case against Blago but that has yet to be the case. Estimates for Kelly’s sentence on the charges he will be sentence for today range from about three to four years in prison.

The NFL Does Not Want Your Betting Money
Some of the NFL’s earliest founders were gamblers. The league draws more wagers in the U.S. than any other sport. It recently authorized its teams to sell their logos to state lotteries. But when it comes letting states expand sports betting, the National Football League has made its position clear: Not now, not ever.
The NFL, which says it will earn $8 billion in revenue this year, is threatening to file a lawsuit against the state of Delaware, where the supreme court unanimously concluded last month that parlays — bets on the outcome of two or more events — are constitutional, opening the door, as early as this fall, for the state to host what would be the first legal sports books outside of Nevada.
Experts on gambling say the decision could have a domino effect. Last month, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine threw his weight behind a federal lawsuit that could pave the way for legalized sports betting in Atlantic City and a spokesman for Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell says he’s following the suit with “keen interest.”

Minn. regulators drop bid to block online gambling
Minnesota regulators might have been outplayed as they bet a decades-old Federal law would contribute itself to an online gambling clamp down.
Coming after a lawsuit from the gambling industry, which believes the crusade a infringement of federal commerce and free-speech protections, state officials said Monday they will back out a demand that web service suppliers block access to thousands of internet site*.
