MLB American Power Rankings – May 3, 2010

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is underway and after the first month of action some teams are beginning to make a statement while some others are off to a much slower start than expected. All 14 American League teams have a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after four weeks and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to win the AL Pennant 11-2 World Series 11-1

Tampa Bay’s fast start continues as they have the best record in baseball at 18-7 and have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games. The lead New York by 1 ½ games and Toronto by 5 ½ games in the AL East. Last week they beat Oakland twice and took three out of four from Kansas City. They are one of the better hitting teams in the AL as they rank fifth with a team average of .263. Their pitching has been lights out as the lead the AL with a team ERA of just 3.01. The rotation has been led by Matt Garza and James Shields who have a combined record of 7-1. Garza leads the team with an ERA of 2.06.

MLB National Power Rankings – May 3, 2010

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is underway and after the first month of action some teams have already made a statement while some others are off to a much slower start than expected. Every National League team has a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after week four and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

St. Louis Cardinals Odds to Win the NL Pennant 15-4 World Series 8-1

The Cardinals have won seven out of the last eight games to open up a 4 ½ game lead over Chicago in the Central. At 17-8, they currently have the best record in the NL and second best in the Major Leagues. In their first eight series they have won seven of them including a recent four game sweep over Atlanta. This past weekend they took two out of three from Cincinnati. They have been getting it done with a very balanced attack of both pitching and hitting as they have a team batting average of .260 and are ranked 1st in pitching with a team ERA of just 2.56.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3-1 World Series 6-1

Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after week three and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to win the AL Pennant 11-2 World Series 11-1

Tampa Bay continues to look impressive, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. After sweeping Boston four straight, they took two out of three from Chicago (White Sox) and Toronto to take their record to 14-5, 1 ½ games ahead of New York in the East. Both the starting rotation and the bull pen are off to a good start as they are currently ranked second in the AL with a team ERA of 3.21. Matt Garza and David Price are each off to 3-1 start. Offensively they currently rank fifth in the AL with a team batting average of .259. Carl Crawford has led the way with a .319 average including 23 hits and 12 RBI’s.

Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after week three and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3-1 World Series 6-1

After a blistering 7-1 start the Phillies have cooled down, going just 4-6 in their last 10. They still lead the East with a record of 11-7, but inconsistency from anyone not named Halladay has plagued their pitching staff so far. With closer Brad Lidge still working his way back into the pen as their closer, the rest of the late relief pitchers have struggled. Last week they took two of three from Atlanta, but lost two of three to Arizona over the weekend. Offensively they are still as solid as ever leading the NL in runs with 104. While the batting order is littered with great hitters, Ryan Howard still has the biggest bat with 22 hits, 16 RBI’s and 11 runs scored.

MLB American Power Rankings – April 20, 2010

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is underway and after two weeks of action some teams have already made a statement while some others are off to a much slower start than expected. All 14 American League teams have a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after week two and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 2-1 World Series 14-5

New York is off to a solid start this season as they are tied atop the East with Tampa at 9-3 and have won all four of the series they have played so far. They bounced back from an opening day loss to take two out of three from Boston. They followed that up by taking two out of three from the Rays and Angels. This past weekend they completed a three game sweep of the Rangers with a 5-2 win on Sunday. Yankee starters C.C. Sabathia, A.J Burnett, and Andy Pettitte are a combined 6-0 in nine starts. Pettitte leads the group with an ERA of 1.35. The bats of Jose Posada (.378 average) and Derek Jeter (.380 average) book end a very strong lineup.

They started by taking two out of three from Cincinnati to open the season, two of three from Milwaukee, and two of three from Houston in their home opening series. This past weekend they took two out of three from the Mets to win their fourth straight series. So far it has been the bats of Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday, and Ryan Ludwick along with the arms of Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter that have led the way for the Cardinals.

MLB American Power Rankings – April 12, 2010

The start of the 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is upon us and after only one full week of action a couple of teams have already jumped out to a great start, while a few others probably wish the first five or six games they played were still part of spring training and did not count in the standings. Every American League team has a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after week one and their currents odds to win the AL Pennant and the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 2-1 World Series 14-5

Even though ace C.C. Sabathia and the defending World Series Champions got roughed up in their 9-7 season opening loss to their dreaded rivals, the Boston Red Sox, they rebounded nicely by winning four out of their next five. They took the next two from the Red Sox and two out of three from Tampa over the weekend. In Sabathia’s next start he erased any doubts by taking a no hitter into the eighth inning before giving up a two out single to Kelly Shoppach. The Yankee bats have been solid as well, averaging 6 ½ runs in their four wins. Robinson Cano has been the unlikely stud so far with nine hits in 26 at-bats and six RBI’s.

MLB National Power Rankings – April 12, 2010

The start of the 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is upon us and after only one full week of action some teams have already made a statement while some others could have probably used another week or two of spring training to get their act together. Every National League team has a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after week one and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3-1 World Series 6-1

So far the trade for pitching ace Roy Halladay has worked out like a charm. While their former ace, Cliff Lee started the season on the DL for Seattle, Halladay already has two wins under his belt including going the distance on Sunday in a 2-1 victory over Houston. In those two games he has an ERA of just 0.56. The Phillies are currently 5-1 and with one of the most formidable lineups in the league have already picked up where they left off last year by scoring 43 runs for an average of 7.16 per game. They host the Nationals for a three game set, starting with their 3:05 P.M. home opener today at Citizen’s National Park.

MLB American League Power Rankings – Opening Day

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season gets underway this week with a full slate of games on the schedule. Every American League team has a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL on Opening Day and their currents odds to win the AL Pennant and the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 2-1 World Series 14-5

The defending 2009 World Series Champion’s roster has remained fairly intact from last year with the exception of the loss of Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui, the 2009 World Series MVP. In their season opener on Sunday night against Boston, their ace C.C. Sabathia got roughed up a bit in a 9-7 loss, but still leads a very potent rotation that includes Andy Pettitte and A.J. Burnett. With players such as Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, and Alex Rodriguez providing the offense this team is primed to win it all again.

Boston Red Sox Odds to win the AL Pennant 11-4 World Series 11-2
