AFC West Week 16 Preview & Picks

NFL AFC West Week 16 Preview

The season is just about over, and Week 16 of the 2010-11 NFL AFC West gives us a couple of interesting match ups. Among them is my pick for Game of the Week, Indianapolis at Oakland.

Both teams are in must win situations to keep their playoff hope alive. It’s a matchup of air supremacy versus ground supremacy. The Colts rank first in passing while Oakland is second in rushing yards.  Two opposing styles are going head to head, and both will be playing to win.

Before we jump into this week’s previews, let’s look at this week’s AFC West leaders.

San Diego’s Phillip Rivers still remains the division’s passing leader with 4,141 yards, while Kansas City’s Jamaal Charles leads all running backs with 1,303 rushing yards, and Denver’s Brandon Lloyd with 1,264 yards receiving. Chiefs’ WR Dwayne Bowe leads the division with 14 touchdowns.

AFC West Week 15 Preview & Picks

NFL AFC West Week 15 Preview

As the regular season starts to wind down, Week 15 of the 2010-11 NFL AFC West gives us a couple of interesting match ups. Among them is my pick for Game of the Week, Denver at Oakland. This long time rivalry always ignites emotions and with a Raiders team that is improving versus arguably the NFL’s most potent passing game, it could be a fight to the finish. Denver has struggled most of the season, while Oakland has been a bit of a surprise.

Before we jump into this week’s previews, let’s look at this week’s AFC West leaders.

San Diego’s Phillip Rivers still remains the division’s passing leader with 3,868 yards, while Kansas City’s Jamaal Charles leads all running backs with 1,177 rushing yards, and Denver’s Brandon Lloyd, with 1,185 yards receiving. Chiefs’ WR Dwayne Bowe leads the division with 14 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Broncos’ D.J. Williams has a division leading 104 total tackles, while the Chiefs’ Tambi Hali has eleven sacks, including one last week against San Diego. San Diego’s Antoine Cason has a division leading four interceptions.
Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners.

AFC West Week 14 Preview & Picks

NFL AFC West Week 14 Preview

Some interesting things have been going on in the AFC West over the past week starting with the firing of Denver head coach Josh McDaniels. After winning his first six games as an NFL head coach, he went just 5-17, making several questionable personnel decisions and was eventually involved in a videotape scandal. Running backs coach Eric Studesville was named interim coach for the rest of the season.

The Raiders seemed to have found their mojo, and after losing 13 straight games to San Diego, Oakland swept the four-time defending champion Chargers in 2010. However, they lost quarterback Bruce Gradkowski for possibly the rest of the season after he suffered his second shoulder separation this year in Week 12.

Meanwhile, Kansas City extended its lead atop the AFC West by two games with its third consecutive win, its best streak since starting the season 3-0 as they look poised to win its their first division title since 2003.

Now let’s take a quick look at each NFC West Week 13 match up’s.

AFC West Week 13 Preview & Picks

NFL AFC West Week 13 Preview

The Kansas City Chiefs have finally put some distance between them and second place in the AFC West, but San Diego and Oakland are within just one and two games respectively of challenging for top spot in the division with over a month of football left to play.

Before we jump into the previews of this week’s matchups, let’s take a look at some of the divisions more interesting stats. Here are the AFC West leaders in some key statistical categories after Week 12:

Despite the Broncos two-game-losing skid, quarterback Kyle Orton as overtaken San Diego’s Phillip Rivers as the NFL’s leading passer in yards with 3,370. Too bad this hasn’t equated to wins for Denver. It’s even more disappointing when your No. 1 receiver—Brandon Lloyd—leads the league in reception yardage with 1,122.

It’s not surprising that the Chiefs Jamaal Charles leads the division and has now moved into second place in rushing yards overall, racking up 1,021 for the season. Charles is a huge factor in Kansas City’s success.

NFL AFC West Week 11 Preview
Denver won its third game last week against Kansas City, 49-29, which was a surprise. The San Diego Chargers pulled a win against Houston last week, 29-23, while Oakland had the week off after beating Kansas City in Week 9, 23-20 in overtime.

Before we jump into this week’s previews, let’s look at this week’s AFC West leaders.

AFC West Win Totals Predictions

2010 AFC West – Win Totals Preview, Predictions & Picks

AFC West Win TotalsWith all 32 teams eagerly preparing for the 2010 NFL football season, it is time to take a look at the projected win total for each team to try and determine whether they will go over, stay under, or push. Today we take a look at each team in the AFC West.

San Diego Chargers – Win Total Prediction: 11

san diego chargers previewBefore the preseason started, picking San Diego to win 12 or 13 games and cruise to the AFC West title seemed like a no-brainer. With the start of the regular season right around the corner and the Chargers still embroiled in some serious contract disputes; this no longer seems like a lock. Vincent Jackson, the team’s leading wide receiver in 2009 appears content to hold out the entire season to try and force the team to either pay him or trade him. Also missing from the team for the same reason is All Pro LT Marcus McNeill, who is primarily responsible for protecting Philip Rivers’ blind side. These are two players that you do not to try and make a championship run without – UNDER.

Denver Broncos – Win Total Prediction: 7.5

Baltimore Ravens – Win Total Prediction: 10

baltimore ravens previewIt took a win the final regular season game to get Baltimore into the playoffs last season, but a dominating 33-14 win over the Patriots in New England in the Wildcard round proved it belonged. With the addition of WR’s Anquan Boldin and Dante’ Stallworth, the Ravens have recommitted themselves to QB Joe Flacco and the passing game. Stallworth will most likely miss the first half of the season with a foot injury, but Flacco already has plenty of other weapons to throw the ball to.. They also took a hit on defense when their first round draft pick, LB Sergio Kindle, injured his head in an off-field accident and could be lost for the season. None the less, this team appears ready to pick up where it left off for an even deeper run in 2010 – OVER.

Pittsburgh Steelers – Win Total Prediction: 8 ½
