The Belmont Stakes- Preview & Predictions

The 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes will take place this Saturday, June 5th at Belmont Park in Elmont New York. Post time is scheduled for 6:32 P.M (ET) and is race number 11 of a 13 race card. The final and longest of the three Triple Crown races, The Belmont is a grade I stakes race for three year old Thoroughbreds with a total prize purse of $1,000,000. It is contested on a dirt track over a distance of     1 ½ mile.

With a field of 12 entries, here is a brief preview along with the current odds for a few of the horses to watch in Saturday’s race.

2010 Belmont Stakes Preview

Post time approx. 6:30 PM EST
TV: ABC, beginning at 5 PM EST

With Derby winner Super Saver and Preakness winner Lookin’ at Lucky being no-shows for this Saturday’s 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes race, the absence of a heavy favorite makes for some tempting wagering.

Post-position draws will be held on Wednesday, but unlike the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, it won’t matter as much in this 1½-mile marathon, as horses and jockeys will have plenty of time to make up for early traffic issues on Belmont’s endless backstretch.
