Detroit Lions’ Ndamukon Suh not likely to get penalized vs. the Raiders says BetOnline

Controversial Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukon Suh makes his return to the lineup Sunday afternoon after serving a two game suspension for stomping on Packers’ Evan Dietrich-Smith. The top pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Suh has already made a name for himself as one of the most dominant defensive players in the game; and one of the dirtiest too.

With 28 NFL games under his belt, the former Nebraska Cornhusker already has already racked-up over $42,000 worth of fines and nine personal foul penalties. No wonder he was named the dirtiest player in the NFL by his peers.

This Sunday Suh and the Lions are one-point road favorites, at BetOnline.com, versus the Oakland Raiders.

Coming off the suspension, will Suh be on his best behavior, or will he pick up his tenth personal fould penalty of his career? BetOnline is giving their players to bet on this very prop:

Will Ndamukon Suh record a personal foul penalty?

Yes +350
No -500

BetOnline’s Dave Mason explained the thought process behind the betting odds:

“Suh gets flagged for a personal foul in about one out of every three games he plays. So from a pure odds standpoint +350 represents outstanding value. However, we figure he’ll be on his best behavior, the Lions can’t afford to lose him, especially considering they are in the hunt for an NFC Wildcard. That being said, you know the refs will be watching him closer than ever and won’t hesitate throwing the flag if he thugs it up again.”

Head over to BetOnline now to bet on this prop or to simply view any of the NFL Week 15 betting lines. While you are there, remember to get up to $900.00 worth of free play bonuses after you make a deposit.

New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys
Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 8:20 PM EST on NBC

Spread: Dallas Cowboys -3.5
Money Line: Dallas Cowboys -290 / New York Giants +165
Over/Under: 48.5

The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants have a score to settle in the NFC East and will meet twice before the end of the regular season next month. This Sunday marks the first of those two appearances and the hometown Cowboys will look to protect their current one-game lead.

Though their records are similar, where exactly each club sits on the NFL futures board varies considerably. The Cowboys lead the division with 20/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl, the Giants sit at just 50/1 on that same list.

Click Here for more Free Expert NFL Football Picks

Will Tony Romo be able to justify the lofty expectation fans have of the club? The NFC East may not exactly be the most feared division in football this year, but all it takes is a playoff berth for a club to make noise on the NFL betting board.

Eli Manning will look to snap his squad out of a four-game losing streak, three of which have come against contending clubs from throughout the league. They may not be getting the break they would have hoped for after a run-in with the Green Bay Packers in Week 13, but there’s no sense in dwelling on the scheduling misfortune.

If the Giants don’t stop their slide now, they’ll be in for a disappointing December, much to Dallas’ delight.

The odds makers have the Dallas Cowboys as a -3.5 point favorite with an over/under of 48.5.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cleveland Browns
Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 8:20 PM EST on NFL Network

Spread: Pittsburgh Steelers -14.5
Over/Under: 40

Caught up in a raging battle for the AFC North Division lead, the 9-3 Pittsburgh Steelers will welcome the opportunity to pry a win away from the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. They currently share the top spot with rival Baltimore.

Click Here for more Free Expert NFL Football Picks

Although the Steelers have already yielded the playoff tie-breaker to the Ravens, they can avoid disappointment at the end of the season by finishing with a distinctly better record. Such playoff implications are what make games like the one this week some of the most intriguing on the NFL betting board.

The Browns may not have the opportunity to climb back into the playoff picture in time, but aren’t to be taken lightly. If Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Tomlin can instill a sense of urgency in Pittsburgh, though, then a win is well within reach.

Even though the Steelers have seen their odds of winning the Super Bowl fluctuate this season, they’ve emerged as the consistent threat fans expected them to be, even after a disastrous Week 1 suggested that there may be a power shift brewing in the AFC North.

Now, as the season reaches maturity Pittsburgh looks to be as big of a force on the NFL odds board as anyone.

The odds makers have the Pittsburgh Steelers as a -14.5 point favorite with an over/under of 40.

Cleveland is 2-4-1 ATS in its last 7 games on the road

Winless in Bills Toronto Series So Far, Buffalo Favored on NFL Odds Board

Fresh off of a bye week in Week 7, the Buffalo Bills will head north of the border to host the Washington Redskins in the fourth year of their five-year series in Toronto. Early NFL odds point to the “hometown” Bills as the favorites heading into the match.

Click Here for more Free Expert NFL Football Picks

Dating as far back as 2008 the Bills have hosted (and lost) one game each season on Canadian soil – this year, with 40/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl and a 4-2 record, excitement has already started to build.

Will Buffalo take advantage of their recent bye and come out of the gates looking to punish a Washington defense that most recently fell to the Cam Newton-led Carolina Panthers?

With 75/1 odds on the NFL futures board the Redskins aren’t about to dominate football headlines, but their 3-1 start to the season is indicative of the damage they can do if Rex Grossman is at the top of his game. Unfortunately for Skins fans, back to back losses have bumped them down the standings in a tough NFC East division.

For Bills fans in Canada and beyond, Ryan Fitzpatrick and company will look to pick up where they left off before the break. Though Buffalo has lost two of their last three matches, the defeats came at the hands of respectable Cincinnati and the New York Giants – by a combined six points.

Is this the year that Buffalo reverses years of futility?

The odds makers have the Buffalo Bills as a -5.5 point favorite with an over/under of 45.5.

What a fantastic game we are treated to this week between the two most pleasant surprises in the league this season. San Francisco is coming off the most shocking result from last weekend and they just destroyed Tampa Bay team that I think is pretty good. It was their biggest winning margin since 1987. I don’t want to jinx it but Alex Smith might actually be figuring out how to play quarterback in this league.

San Francisco is currently in first place in the NFC West and playing very well under new coach Jim Harbaugh. Their defense has been superb, second in the league in points allowed at just over 15 per game, masking an offense that even though it doesn’t generate a ton of yards, scores points, 7th in the league. Facing Detroit will be their toughest test of the season so far.

There are a lot of reasons to like San Francisco this year but not in this spot. They are going to have to play some pretty inspired defense to keep Detroit out of the end zone which nobody has really been able to do all season long. If this thing becomes more of a shootout they just don’t have the weapon to keep up with the high power Lions.

Detroit Lions

It is getting harder and harder to come up with compliments for the Detroit Lions. In a national spotlight game Monday night Detroit broke their recent string of losses against the Chicago Bears. It wasn’t a great game for viewers but the Lions made some very big plays to get the win. It is a sign of this team’s development that that are able to win in a variety of ways.

What I loved most about Monday’s game is that Lions were actually able to run the ball. With Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson it is tempting to throw it often but they need to be able to run it effectively if they want to keep up their current pace it was nice to see Jahvid Best rip off an 88 yard touchdown run but he also scampered for another 75 yards on his 11 other carries. If this team develops true balance than they are a nightmare to defend.

This could be a very special season for the Detroit Lions and I see no reason for the 49ers to derail it this week. At -4 there is good value on Detroit, helped by close score last week and San Francisco’ throttling of Tampa Bay. This is a great spot, especially with the Lions at home.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts are one of three remaining winless teams in the NFL this season. However, after a couple of disastrous games they have been close in their last three contests, all decided by 7 points or less. They also seem to have settled on Curtis Painter as their quarterback, ending the Kerry Collins Experience – thankfully. They may not break through with a win this week but they are no longer a laughingstock.

Since Painter took over the Colts have looked much better. They may be playing more conservatively than what we are used to seeing but he has a QB rating of 100 and has yet to throw an interception in two starts. It definitely appears that his favourite target is Pierre Garcon – he has caught all of Painter’s 4 TD tosses and currently the Colts leading receiver. That might not be sitting well with the more established Reggie Wayne but this is a lost season either way so hopefully he won’t stir up trouble.

Given what we have seen of the Colts over the last few weeks it is surprising that Cincinnati is as heavily favoured as it is. It just doesn’t look right so it will be interesting to see if old habits die hard at the betting window and the line comes down some leading up to kickoff. This doesn’t look like a team that is going to go zero for the season but I don’t think they are going to get their first W this week either. Can they keep it close.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are in the thick of things in the AFC North. They have a pretty light schedule this year so if they can keep playing well they should be able to remain in the race. This is a critical game that they must win against an inferior Indianapolis team. The Bengals aren’t glamourous but they are getting it done with superb defense and a rookie quarterback. Sounds a lot like other teams in their division from the past – Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

Believe it or not Cincinatti has the #1 defense in the NFL in yards allowed. They are 6th in points giving up just 18 per game. Those numbers have allowed new QB Andy Dalton to play conservatively keeping them in the ball game. He needs to cut down on his interceptions but he has already developed a chemistry with top pick reciever A.J. Green, who is as good as advertised. This offense should keep improving as the season progresses.

It is hard not to root for the Bengals. They took a stand with Carson Palmer and now they appear to be heading in the right direction as a franchise. Despite the good vibes it is hard to envision a big -8 attached to them. To me it has to come down before I would make a big play on them especially with a team as desperate as Indy is right now. You can throw out series data with Peyton Manning on the sidelines.

ATS Pick: Indianapolis +8

Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton continues to impress but the Carolina Panthers continue to lose. Their latest scare victim was the New Orleans Saints who had to score a late touchdown to avoid the upset. Coming up just short every week can wear on a team so this is going to be a tough spot on the road against a desperate Atlanta Falcons team.

Before the season started this game would have probably been set at +10 or greater for Carolina. Atlanta’s struggles aside the main reason the Panthers are in every game every week is the play of rookie QB Cam Newton. Through the air and on the ground (5 rushing TDs) he has quickly become one of the leagues most dynamic playmakers. Most importantly he knows how to use that cannon of an arm and will definitely challenge a Falcons defense that is 28th in the league.

If the Panthers want to start winning the defense needs to step up, only once had they held an opponent below 23 points – and that was Jacksonville so it might not really account. Last year they got beat by Atlanta twice with identical 31-10 scores. In fact if you look closer at the yardage the games were nearly the same as well. A lot has changed for Carolina since then but is it enough for a victory

Atlanta Falcons

Things are getting pretty desperate in Hotlanta. After making a significant move at the draft to get receiver Julio Jones their play has indicated that they were clearly not just one player away. This team is sputtering and needs to get going in a hurry to maintain contact with New Orleans at the top of the NFC South. This week is an opportunity they have to take advantage of so the pressure is on.

With the addition of Jones the Falcons offense was supposed to be very good this year as it appeared all that was missing was a deep threat to stretch the field. That has not transpired as expected and now Jones is out this weekend with bad hammy. The really surprising part is how they have struggled to run the ball. They are averaging less than 100 yards per game on the ground and because they have been behind so much they don’t the same balance they have had in the past.

As stated earlier the Falcons are desperate this week. A loss to the Panthers would be totally unacceptable, as well as really put them behind the eight ball with 4 losses already. With their brutal record and high expectations they have also been killing backers wallets. Meanwhile the Panthers have cashed 4 straight times ATS. I don’t like the Atlanta side but I am not sure I can get behind Carolina right now. They are actually getting respect from the bookmakers now.

ATS Pick: Atlanta -3.5

The New England Patriots are on fire and winning consistently (so, what’s new?), and they are doing so in a way that no one thought was possible.

Click Here for more Free Expert NFL Football Picks

The success of the Patriots this season, and the way the success is coming, has shown how different the league is compared to where it was when quarterback Tom Brady first entered the scene back in 2001. The Patriots are allowing the most passing yards on defense, and are near the bottom in overall defense as well. But they are outscoring every team they play substantially.

This week, the Patriots will play a team that seems to be on its last wheel.

The Dallas Cowboys will head to Foxboro looking like the most unstable team in the league. Quarterback Tony Romo just can’t seem to put together four quarters of solid play, and has given away far too many games for his team to really rally around his as their leader.

One thing that the Cowboys have going their way in this matchup, is they are coming off a bye week and will be well rested and prepared to play one of the hottest teams in the league.

Luckily, too, for the Cowboys, namely Romo, the team will need to run the ball all day, so as to keep Brady and the Patriot offense off the field. Romo should be able to lead his offense to plenty of points, as the Patriots are the worst in the league at defending the pass.

But, America’s team isn’t likely to slow down Brady enough for Romo and the offense to outscore them, unless the offense can keep them on the bench. This is the most important aspect of the game for the Cowboys, and the only way they can win.

The odds makers have the New England Patriots as a -7 point favorite with an over/under of 55.

Matt’s Prediction: Patriots 28, Cowboys 24 – Surprisingly, this has a chance to be one of the best games of the year. Dallas’ defense is good, there is no denying that, and they should be able to hold the Patriots at bay for a little while, but they will need the help of the offense. I just don’t think it will be enough, but I’d still take the Cowboys against the spread.

Spread (ATS): Baltimore Ravens -9, +110

The Baltimore Ravens are perhaps the most non-compelling team in the league. They are doing what everyone thought they would be doing at this point: winning. And they are doing it with two of the oldest things in the book: a running game and defense.

Click Here for more Free Expert NFL Football Picks

The Ravens, coming off a bye week, will have a chance to improve to 4-1 this Sunday when they host the Houston Texans (3-2), who are coming off a dramatic defeat against the mourning Raiders.

The Ravens are second in rushing yards allowed, with an astonishing 72.5 average per game. It is amazing that they are able to keep up such a high level of play no matter who comes and goes on the squad. And it seems as long as linebacker Ray Lewis is in the middle of the defense, they will be among the best in the league.

The Texans are reeling after their 25-20 defeat last week, a game in which they played without star receiver Andre Johnson, who is likely out for another five weeks.

Houston, after Peyton Manning’s injury, were counting on this year to be the one that they could finally win the AFC South and make the playoffs, in what would be their first postseason appearance in franchise history. Now, with a Tennessee team that is on fire, and loosing their best player, they’re playoff chances are looking grim.

The Ravens, though, have put themselves in a great position moving forward in the season, having already beaten their division rival the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-7. The only question for the Ravens has to be, “Can they sustain their dominant play?” Fortunately for the, they have a team coming off an emotional defeat, and they are coming into the matchup rested and ready.

The odds makers have the Baltimore Ravens as a -9 point favorite with an over/under of 45.

Matt’s Prediction: Ravens 14, Texans 10 – I’d expect this to be a close game, as the Texans, even without Johnson, have enough offensive firepower to put up enough points to keep up with the Ravens, even against the best defense in the league. The Texans aren’t likely to come out on top, but they should be able to cover the spread.

The Pittsburgh Steelers came into the 2011 season ready to show that they could return to the Super Bowl, and even win it this time around, as they have six times in the past. But after early season struggles, a lot of people started doubting the Steelers’ ability to get it done, but have since begun to silence the chatter.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are finally riding high after a rough start to the season, and will now get an off week. Wait, no, their playing the Jacksonville Jaguars … well, close enough.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been awful so far in 2011, but have improved since choosing to ride with rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, wherever he may take them.

Gabbert has thrown for 608 yards and three touchdowns since taking over the offense, and has shown that he has all the potential in the world. The only problem is, that potential isn’t enough for the Jaguars to be any sort of competitive team this year.

Running back Maurice Jones-Drew has run rampant on defense in 2011, rushing for 476 yards and two touchdowns, but hasn’t put out enough to really carry his team to victories. If Jones-Drew can stay healthy in the future though, the team likely has a deadly duo in the making with him and Gabbert.

The Steelers, on the other hand, have all the talent in the world, and finally started living up to it in the past couple of weeks, but now face a bigger problem than a little inconsistency. The injury bug has hit Pittsburgh badly lately, with Rashard Mendenhall, the team’s most dependable running back, and James Harrison, the defenses silent leader, both missing last week.

Mendenhall is expecting to play in this game, but how dominant his role will be in the offense has yet to be seen. And with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throwing the ball a lot more than previous years, Mendenhall’s impact on offense is likely to be minimal.

Despite this, the Steelers’ offense still is likely to blow right past the ailing Jaguar defense.

The odds makers have the Pittsburgh Steelers as a -13.5 point favorite with an over/under of 40.5.

Matt’s Prediction: Steelers 21, Jaguars 10 – It is just a bad matchup for the Jaguars. The Steelers are 13-point favorites, and rightly so. The Steelers are just far and away the better team, and it will show in the final outcome. The Steelers will put up more than enough points needed to win the game, as their defense is likely to embarrass the Jaguar’s rookie quarterback.
