THU, NOV 11 TIME (ET)

Baltimore at Atlanta 8:20 PM NFL – The only break Atlanta will get in this one, is that it will be their third consecutive home game. The Ravens will be at full tilt at this point in the season and the defense will create havoc for Falcons QB Matt Ryan as Atlanta searches for a way to contain Ray Rice.

2010 NFC East – Win Totals Preview, Predictions & Picks

NFC East Win TotalsAs all 32 teams head back to training camp to begin preparing for the 2010 NFL football season, it is time to take a look at the projected win total for each team to try and determine whether they will go over or stay under. Today we take a look at each team in the NFC East.

Dallas Cowboys – Win Total Prediction: 10

dallas cowboys previewIn most sportsbooks Dallas is the odds-on-favorite to win the NFC East, but many experts have the Cowboys winning the conference and possibly even the Super Bowl. With a dominating defense and a high powered offense led by QB Tony Romo, they certainly have all the tools to go all the way, but in looking at their schedule they will have a brutal road to get there. Road games against Green Bay, Minnesota, and Indianapolis coupled with hosting New Orleans make their non-division schedule one of the toughest in the league. They get their 11th and final win of the regular season in week 16 against Arizona, barely winning enough to cover – OVER.

Philadelphia Eagles – Win Total Prediction: 8.5

Houston Texans 2009 NFL Record: 9-7 Home: 4-4 Away: 5-3

Houston Texans 2010 Preview

It’s Year 9 for the Texans, and it’s time to make a bold move – namely, making the playoffs for the first time. Houston took a step in the right direction last year with a 9-7 record, its first winning season. That was enough to keep Gary Kubiak employed for another year, but fans’ and ownership’s patience with mediocrity is wearing thin. Of the 12 NFL and AFL expansion teams since 1960, only Atlanta and New Orleans took more than eight years to reach the postseason for the first time. To make the playoffs, the Texans must overcome the bad starts of the last two years (0-4 in 2008 and 2-3 last year). It won’t be easy. Besides its tough division opponents, Houston plays the NFC East – not exactly a day at the beach – along with the more manageable AFC West and the defensive-minded Jets and Ravens. Read more

Tennessee Titans 2009 NFL Record: 8-8 Home: 5-3 Away: 3-5

Tennessee Titans 2010 Preview

Which personality best represents the Titans – the team that struggled to six consecutive losses to start last season, or the squad led by a resurrected quarterback that made a run at the AFC playoffs before finishing at 8-8? This fall will go a long way toward determining whether the team that finished last season strong was the real deal. The offense is intact, including Chris Johnson, who is coming off a season in which he rushed for 2,006 yards. Quarterback Vince Young gets to show what he can do after a full offseason of preparation as a No.1 quarterback. The defense is another issue. The unit could return to its forfiler greatness, thanks to a defensive- heavy draft, healed injuries and improved returning players. Or, many of the problems that haunted the 28th-ranked defense last season could reappear. Put it all together and if things fall right, the Titans look like an APC wild card team. If they don’t, Jeff Fisher & Co. will be watching the playoffs on TV again. Read more

Jacksonville Jaguars 2009 NFL Record: 7-9 Home: 5-3 Away: 2-6

Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 Preview

Things are heating up in Jacksonville, and it has nothing to do with the weather. After the Jaguars’ late-season collapse in 2009, when the team lost its final four games to lose a playoffs pot, owner Wayne Weaver turned up the heat on coach Jack Del Rio. Weaver said the team has been “average” too long and that he expected a playoff berth in 2010. In fact, Del Rio’s record after seven years is an average 57-55. Del Rio jumped on the bandwagon and said he, too, will settle for nothing less than the playoffs. He then called quarterback David Garrard a “middle-tier” quarterback but said he plans to stick with him. With the trickle-down theory in full force, Garrard, who has, in fact, been average since the 2007 season, told a reporter during the offseason he was “feeling the heat under my pants” to produce. But if the defense, which was below average, doesn’t improve, Garrard probably won’t make much of a difference anyway. Read more

Indianapolis Colts 2009 NFL Record: 14-2 Home: 7-1 Away: 7-1

Indianapolis Colts 2010 Preview

The Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian irked some of his players when he blamed the team’s 31-17 Super Bowl XLIV loss to New Orleans on the offensive line and special teams. It’s not exactly the customary way to move forward. And the line criticism didn’t make sense. The guys blocking for Peyton Manning allowed a franchise-low 13 sacks of the fourtime NFL MVP. The Saints didn’t get him, either. And the Colts’ beleaguered 32nd ranked running game gained 99 yards on 19 carries in the finale. Still, the Colts have taken steps to get bigger and stronger up front. It’s easy to forget that the Colts started 14-0 in the wake of the decision to sit starters and ignore history, sparking a national debate. Fans were outraged. Players were upset, too. But while the fallout from such a disconnect would be a problem for most organizations, it should not be for the Colts, who win in the regular season like no other team. Their unprecedented streak of 12 victories or more per year is at seven and counting. Read more

NFL Week 8 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions

We reach the halfway point by Week 8 of the 2010-11 NFL season, and the divisions should be taking shape. My pick for Game of the Week is Minnesota at New England. An epic battle between two of the NFL’s all-time best quarterbacks. Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners. Teams with byes this week are Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, NY Giants, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

SUN, OCT 31 TIME (ET)

Miami at Cincinnati 1:00 PM CBS – The Fins defense should wreak havoc on the Bengals front line spending much of the day chasing QB Carson Palmer from the safety of the pocket. The Bengals will struggle to find a way to counter the wildcat and contain the Miami rushing duo of Williams and Brown.

Jacksonville at Dallas 1:00 PM CBS – The Jags will want to head into their bye week with a big win in D-land. The Cowboys will need to contain RB Maurice Jones-Drew, as Jacksonville is likely to play it safe on the ground. If Dallas can get on the board early, this one could be over by the half.

NFL Week 7 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions

As we approach two months of regular season action, Week 7 of the 2010-11 NFL gives us a couple interesting match ups. Among them is my pick for Game of the Week, Minnesota at Green Bay. These two teams are pretty evenly matched and could be a preview of this year’s NFC First-Round Playoff. Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners. Teams with byes this week are Detroit, Indianapolis, NY Jets, and Houston.

SUN, OCT 24 TIME (ET)

Cincinnati at Atlanta 1:00 PM CBS – Two of the leagues best wide receivers will square off as Chad Johnson goes head-to head with hometown prodigy Roddy White. The two teams play a similar style strategy so this could be a showdown. Can the youthful Matt Ryan outduel veteran Carson Palmer. The magic “Ochocinco” ball says. “Signs point to yes.”

Washington at Chicago 1:00 PM FOX –Redskins’ QB Donavan McNabb marches onto Soldier Field under a different banner but he will be greeted with the same hostility. CB Carlos Rogers and the rest of the Washington secondary could have a big day against the Bears’ Jay Cutler, who is likely to have more INT’s then TD’s after this one.

San Diego Chargers 2009 NFL Record: 13-3 Home: 6-2 Away: 7-1

San Diego Chargers 2010 Preview

The San Diego Chargers moves on without LaDainian Tomlinson, whose nine-year run as the face of the franchise ended in the offseason due to age and salary cap concerns. The Chargers will try to win their fifth straight AFC West title behind a supercharged offense led by quarterback Philip Rivers, tight end Antonio Gates and wide receivers Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd. They’re also looking to reestablish a defensive identity behind outside linebacker Shawne Merriman, who wasn’t the same old “Lights Out” last year as he returned from knee surgery. The Super Bowl reinains an elusive goal for the Chargers, who have lost three of their last four playoff games, including a mystifying pratfall against the Jets. The window of opportunity hasn’t closed on the Bolts, but it’s certainly getting smaller for Southern California’s only NFL team. Some people, including some opposing coaches, continue to insist that San Diego is the NFL’s most talented team. That might be the case, but it hasn’t translated into recent success in January.
