Miami Dolphins 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

The one word that summarizes the 2008 season for the Miami Dolphins is of course none other than Wildcat. The Wildcat formation took the NFL by storm and propelled the Dolphins offense into a dynamic threat. The late addition of quarterback Chad Pennington also served as an immediate boost for the club. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams provided an excellent dual threat from the backfield and Ted Ginn began to fulfill some of the promise he was drafted for. Joey Porter returned to excellence with a 17.5 sack season. The club also got a great season from linebacker Channing Crowder and safety Yeremiah Bell among other defensive contributors which helped the Dolphins finish 10 th against the run. The team finished 9 th in the league in terms of points allowed but was only 25 th against the pass. [Read more...]

Chicago Bears 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

Houston Texan 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

The Houston Texans started off their 2008 NFL season by going 0-4 and having to use their bye in the second week of the year due to Hurricane Ike. They rebounded to finish the year on an 8-4 run, including winning five of their last six games to finish 8-8. The offense was buoyed by a breakout rookie year by running back Steve Slaton. Matt Schaub missed a handful of games to injury which cost the team, but they still managed to finish 4 th in the league in passing offense. This is in large thanks due to Andre Johnson, who once again proved himself as a premier wide receiver in the NFL. That said, despite finishing 3 rd in total yards, the club only finished 17 th in points scored, something that 20 interceptions and an inability to pound the ball close the goal line contributed to. The defense finished 27 th in points allowed and was largely disappointing considering some of the young talent on the squad. [Read more...]

Denver Broncos 2008 NFL Record: 8-8 | Denver Broncos ATS (Against The Spread): 4-11-1

Two words come to mind for the 2008 season of the Denver Broncos, collapse and change. With three weeks left in the season the Broncos sat at 8-5 and were looking primed for a postseason run. The team than lost their final three games, including the decisive final game against division rival San Diego to miss the playoffs and finish with a record of 8-8. The end to the season was the catalyst for the departure of longtime coach and GM Mike Shanahan. While he was once again able to craft a successful offensive attack, despite lacking nearly any healthy running back, the defense continued to flounder. The Broncos finished the year ranked 30 th in points allowed and 29 th in yards allowed per game.

Baltimore Ravens 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

Baltimore Ravens 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

The Baltimore Ravens had a very successful season and surprising 2008 NFL campaign. Not because the defense was terrifying once again, that is of course to be expected. But because rookie quarterback Joe Flacco quickly developed into a coolheaded player with a big arm that could lead the club through the ups and downs of a long NFL season and postseason. Derrick Mason had another unappreciated season and a three headed beast at running back, with Le’Ron McClain, Willis McGahee and Ray Rice, punished opposing defenses and ranked fourth in the league as a unit. First year coach John Harbaugh proved his merits as well, and the usual cast of stars on the defensive end of the ball all continued to shine. Ray Lewis enjoyed a renaissance year, and Bart Scott, Terrell Suggs, Trevor Pryce, Ed Reed and Haloti Ngata were just a few of the other integral pieces of the shutdown defense. The defense was ranked second in passing yards and total yards given up, and ranked third in rushing yards given up and points allowed. [Read more...]

2009 NFC West Season Preview

2009 NFC West NFL PreviewWelcome to the best and most complete 2009 NFC West season preview available online. The 2009 NFC West season preview is not going to be real exciting since there is really one team with a chance to do anything. The four teams comprising the NFC West Division are the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams, and Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals had an improbable run a season ago when they won the NFC Championship and nearly defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl. The Cardinals won a weak NFC West after they finished with a record of 9-7. The 49ers finished 2nd in the division with a record of 7-9. The Seahawks finished well back with a very disappointing record of 4-12. Rounding out this lackluster division the Rams struggled all year and won only 2 games finishing at 2-14. Looking towards the 2009 season, the St. Louis Rams have the division’s toughest schedule while the NFC champion Cardinals will have the easiest schedule.

The Cardinals will host the 49ers to open the season and then these teams meet again in Week 14 when they square off in San Francisco. Arizona will carry the momentum from last seasons playoff run into the 2009 season. They will once again be carried by their potent passing attack and will score enough points to win the division with a 10-6 record. The Seahawks will be much improved with a healthy Matt Hassleback at Quarterback. They will be in the divisional race all year long and will finish one game back at 9-7. The 49ers will once again be a mediocre team and finish with a record of 8-8. St. Louis will not be quite as pitiful as the year before but will only manage a few more wins and end the season at 5-11.

2009 Arizona Cardinals NFC West Preview

arizona cardinals nfc season previewThe Arizona Cardinals are the reigning NFC Champions and this momentum will stay with them going into this season. QB Kurt Warner was excellent for them last year and will once again have a good season in 2009. With Pro Bowl WR Larry Fitzgerald and a playmaker to go along with him in Anquan Boldin the Cardinals will once again have an explosive passing attack. They drafted RB Chris “Beanie” Wells with their 1st Round draft pick this year. He will be a big help to running game that was pitiful a season ago. The defense is returning practically the same unit from a season ago and will need to be better in pass coverage. They will be what prevents this team from winning even more games. Arizona finishes the year at 10-6 and will repeat as NFC West champions.

Our 2009 NFC South season preview will not be the most exciting and neither will the NFC south this year. The four teams comprising the NFC South division are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. Tampa Bay finished 3rd in the division sporting a record of 9-7 at seasons end. The Saints had a disappointing 2008 season as they finished at .500 at 8-8. Behind the excellent play of QB Drew Brees they will finish the season at 11-5 and become NFC South Division champions. The Atlanta Falcons will have another good season and are poised to be a threat in this division for the next few seasons. Atlanta finishes at 10-6 one game back of the Saints. Carolina will have an excellent running game and a good defense but will struggle at the QB position and finish the season at 8-8. Tampa is going to have a tough time winning games in 2009. This team is a few years away from being a contender and will finish the 2009 season last in the NFC South at 5-11.

2009 Atlanta Falcons NFC South Preview

atlanta falcons nfc season previewThe Atlanta Falcons are coming off a strong 2008 season and have found their franchise QB in Matt Ryan. The offseason acquistion of TE Tony Gonzalez will give Matt Ryan a new favorite target and with a strong running game this will be a formidable offense in 2009. The defense is going to take a step back with the loss many players including team leader LB Keith Brooking and CB Domonique Foxworth. It will take a year together for this new defense to gel.
