NHL Game Preview for Wednesday March 14, 2012 – Colorado Avalanche @ Buffalo Sabres

Online Sportsbooks Overview

The  Buffalo Sabres have a chance to do something that no other team has ever done in the NHLsince the league went to Eastern and Western Conferences. No team has ever come from last place in a conference to claim a playoff spot with 30 games or less remaining in the season. As the March Madness spreads get announced, the Sabres get ready to play the Colorado Avalanche in a game that could put the Sabres in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. If the Washington Capitals lose to the New York Islanders on Tuesday and the Sabres win in this game, thenBuffalo controls the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference with only 11 games left in its season. The Sabres have put itself in a position where it needs to rely on a lot of “ifs” to get where it wants to be, butBuffalo is taking advantage of its opportunities.

The Colorado Avalanche is caught up in the battle for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Avalanche currently holds on to that spot, but there are three teams within two points of Coloradoin the standings. The price per head bookie experts did not expect a playoff run from the Colorado Avalanche and the Avalanche are having a pretty good time proving the critics wrong.Colorado has been playing some good hockey lately and has a chance to move into seventh place in the Western Conference with a win in this game.

College Basketball Betting – Kentucky Is A Lock To Win SEC Tournament

One of the biggest sports betting debates that seemed to center around the SEC this season was the legitimacy of calling the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats the best team in the country based on the fact that they completed their conference schedule with a perfect record. On the one hand, there were those that pointed out how incredibly rare it is for a team to win all 16 games on their conference schedule and finish No. 1, which is understandable. On the other hand, the fact that the Wildcats had only one SEC victory that came by a margin of less than six points, including a pair of blowout wins over the No. 19 Florida Gators that came by a combined 25 points, is proof that Kentucky really just didn’t have any true competition in the SEC and was able to benefit from playing in a conference void of top national contenders. The fact that the Wildcats beat both Kansas and UNC earlier in the year will keep critics from attacking their place at the top of the national rankings regardless of the timing of those wins, but looking forward to the SEC tournament there may not be much reason to even bother watching.

Head coach John Calipari’s team is expected to absolutely dominate in the tournament, and right now there isn’t even a single reason to think that they wouldn’t. With as many as six scorers that are capable of hitting double-digit point totals in a single game, the Wildcats boast unparalleled talent and depth in the SEC. Even mort importantly is the way that talent is spread out in terms of size and intangibles, with potential NBA first-overall draft pick Anthony Davis dominating down low as the top big man in the country, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist a future lottery pick out on the perimeter, Doron Lamb a steady difference-maker, and Marquis Teague the consistent playmaker that makes the offense work from the point. That all goes without even mentioning Terrence Jones and Darius Miller, and when you line them all up, a very strong argument can be made that Kentucky has the most talented per head roster in the country.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday March 7, 2012 – Toronto Maple Leafs @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Online Sportsbook Overview

The Toronto Maple Leafs organization has seen a lot of potential saviors in the past few years. Brian Burke was supposed to come in and be the general manager that wins a Stanley Cup. So far, that has not worked out. James Reimer was supposed to be the answer in goal for years to come but he has been forced to share time with Jonas Gustavsson in goal. Now Randy Carlyle has been brought in to replace Ron Wilson as head coach to turn the season around. As the March Madness odds grab headlines in other parts of the world, the people in Toronto wait anxiously to see what results the newest savior will bring.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were having some serious issues about a month ago, but Pittsburghhas battled back in a big way. One of the things that the price per head sports experts have noticed is the rise of Evgeni Malkin as a team leader inPittsburgh. With Sidney Crosby sidelined indefinitely with concussion problems, Malkin has been taking a more aggressive stance on the ice to protect players and act in a leadership role. The payoff has been a much more aggressive and confidentPittsburgh team that now looks to be a contender for the Stanley Cup.

NHL Game Preview for Friday March 2, 2012 – New Jersey Devils @ Washington Capitals

Online Sportsbooks Overview

Now that the NHL trade deadline has passed and the March Madness betting in underway, NHL fans are settling in for what should be an exciting playoff run. The drama is thick in the Eastern Conference as several teams have a legitimate shot at making the post season. The teams that start to fall off now are the ones that will have an extremely difficult time climbing back up into the standings. The teams only have around 20 games left in the season. But most playoff races are so tight that 20 games can seem like an eternity.

Two of the teams that are right in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race are the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals. The fact that these two teams are playing at this point in the season makes for a very good game. The need by both of these teams for every point they can get their hands on means that desperation will hopefully create some very good hockey out of both teams. The Capitals have picked up its play in the past week while the Devils are in danger of being one of those teams that is headed for a late-season collapse.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday February 29, 2012 – Toronto Maple Leafs @ Chicago Blackhawks

Online Sportsbooks Overview

With the NHL trade deadline completed, the Leafs had made some interesting moves. Veteran defenseman Keith Aulie was traded toTampaBay for forward Carter Ashton. To fill in for Aulie, the Leafs later picked up defenseman Mark Fraser from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Dale Mitchell. But that really wasn’t a trade to replace Aulie because Fraser will spend most of the rest of this season in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies. So what didToronto accomplish on trade deadline day? They gave up two experienced players to get two prospects. It looks like the Leafs are building for the future, but that has fans wondering ifToronto is giving up on the rest of this season.

The price per head sports experts are fairly impressed with the trade deadline move that the Chicago Blackhawks made.Chicago gave up a couple of 2013 draft picks to get rugged defenseman Johnny Oduya from the Winnipeg Jets. In an ironic twist, Oduya adds defensive muscle that the Blackhawks lost when it allowed Dustin Byfuglein to go to the Jets a couple of years ago. With a badly needed roster upgrade on defense, the Blackhawks come intoToronto to try and grab two points thatChicago desperately needs to stay in the hunt for a Western Conference playoff spot.

College Basketball Betting – Kansas, Missouri Prepare For Big 12 Showdown Saturday

With just four losses through their first 51 games combined, the Baylor Bears, Missouri Tigers, and Kansas Jayhawks were projected to battle it out in a Big 12 fight that very well could have gone down to the wire this sports betting season. However, despite having the best non-conference record once the Big 12 play got underway, the Bears proved that they couldn’t keep up with the two best teams in the conference, losing all four of their games to Missouri and Kansas. That left the Tigers and Jayhawks alone at the top of the conference standings heading in to the final stretch before the March Madness betting begins, and with just one game between them, this Saturday’s showdown at the Phog Allen Fieldhouse should be the most highly anticipated game of the week.

Missouri heads in to this weekend one game back of Kansas for top spot, but they have nobody else to blame but themselves for not being tied after dropping a crucial home against the Kansas State Wildcats on Tuesday. That loss ended a string of seven straight wins for the Tigers, and in the end it proves that the Wildcats were Missouri’s biggest nemesis as two of their three losses this year came Rodney McGruder and company. The Tigers still have the chance to rebound and finish the year as the top seed in the Big 12 with their final two games against unranked teams in Iowa State and Texas Tech, but the first and most difficult step will be to beat Kansas on the road this Saturday in their final game before the NHL trade deadline day happens on Monday.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday February 22, 2012 – Boston Bruins @ St. Louis Blues

Online Sportsbook Overview

If the sports experts had said during the NHLpreseason that a game in February between the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues could be a Stanley Cup finals preview, they would have received strange looks. Most people could see the Bruins getting back to the finals to defend its Stanley Cup title. But the St.Louis Blues just seem to be an unlikely opponent. But the price per head sports experts have been impressed with what new head coach Ken Hitchcock has been able to do with the team and turn St. Louis into a playoff contender. Now the Blues to get gauge how far it has developed when it takes on the Bruins in this game.

The Bruins looked almost unbeatable as the All-Star break approached, but Bostonhas hit a bit of a bump in the road that is costing it points and is on the verge of costing it the lead in the Northeast Division as well. Many hockey fans in Bostonare not paying much attention to the 2012 March Madness betting activity because they are becoming increasingly concerned with the play of the Bruins. Boston was keeping pace with the New York Rangers for the Eastern Conference lead, but the Rangers have pulled away and Boston is left to try and put its game back together as the final push for the playoffs is just around the corner.

NHL Game Preview for Friday February 17, 2012 – Washington Capitals @ Florida Panthers

Betting Websites Overview

This has been the season that never ends for the Washington Capitals. At no point in this campaign has the Capitals come even close to looking like the dominating force it was the past few years. The price per head sports experts will point out that the Capitals are currently three points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It has been years since the Capitals were so low in the Eastern Conference standings that it has not been in playoff contention. The Caps are being crippled by a lack of offense and inconsistency in the nets. Goaltender Tomas Vokoun was supposed to bring stability to theWashington goal, but Vokoun and backup Michal Neuvirth have both been extremely inconsistent.

The Florida Panthers are taking complete advantage of the problems that the Capitals and Tampa Bay Lighting have experienced this season to take over the lead in the Southeast Division. The sports fans in Floridahave been focusing on 2012 March Madness betting and the opening of MLB training camps lately. But the Panthers are giving sports fans inFlorida a reason to pay attention to theNHL. With Washington Capitals in trouble and the Tampa Bay Lighting languishing in the Eastern Conference basement, the Panthers have seized the opportunity to grab first place in the Southeast Division. Being the best team in the worst division does not usually give a team a lot of chance to win a championship. But, at this point, the Panthers would be happy just to make the playoffs.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday February 15, 2012: Ottawa Senators @ Florida Panthers

Sportsbooks Overview

If anyone would have said that a game in February between the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers would be a battle of two playoff powerhouses, most price per head sports experts would have called that statement crazy. But the Panthers are the top team in the Southeast Division and the Senators have been battling for the fifth and sixth playoff spots for most of the season. The Florida Panthers are the only team in the Southeast Division currently in the playoff hunt. Things have turned a bit upside down in theNHL and now we have a game where both teams need the points to stay in the thick of the playoff race.

The 2012 March Madness betting is in full swing in the state ofFlorida and the only FloridaNHL franchise currently in a playoff spot is the Florida Panthers. While the Panthers are taking advantage of a weak Southeast Division, it should be noted thatFlorida would still have a playoff spot even if it was not the division leader. The Senators are clinging to a playoff spot in a Northeast Division that has seen the re-emergence of the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadiens. When you factor in the Toronto Maple Leafs who are right on the Senators’ heels, then you get a congested playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

NHL Game Preview for Wednesday February 15, 2012 – Ottawa Senators @ Florida Panthers

Sports Betting Overview

When sports fans start betting March Madness college basketball games, that means that the end of theNHL season is not too far off. Now the mad scramble for playoff spots in theNHL begins and teams like the Ottawa Senators are trying to atone for several bad seasons in a row by finally making it into the post-season tournament.Ottawa is currently ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference, but everyOttawa win moves the Senators closer to the top of the conference standings. It is unlikely thatOttawa will catch Northeast Division leadingBoston for the top spot in the division. ButOttawa could land that fourth spot in the conference and get home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Florida Panthers have two less points in the standings than the Senators, but Florida’s status as the leader of the Southeast Division makes them the number three seed in the conference. The pay per head sports experts have been trying to figure out howFlorida manages to win games on a fairly consistent basis.Florida does not score a lot of goals, it does not win a lot of games on the road and it does not play any real grinding style of defense.Florida is getting decent goaltending but nothing spectacular. The Panthers just seem to be able to score goals at key moments and sneak out of games with wins that it could not grab last year. In a weak Southeast Division, the Panthers appear to be the best of the group.
