Rams can run it, but not enough against Saints

Nobody is going to confuse Saints-Rams with Pacquiao Cotto betting, but the Rams are definitely worth consideration to cover. New Orleans was given a similar edge last week against Carolina but failed to make up the necessary points. So is St. Louis a great underdog pick this week?

Boxing Betting – Pacquiao vs Cotto Preview and Pick

Pacquiao Cotto betting probably represents the fight of the year. At worst, it’s on par with the Mayweather/Marquez bout. That’s no coincidence; ideally, Manny Pacquiao will win and set himself up to battle Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the biggest fight of the decade. Standing in his way is powerful, tough Miguel Cotto. Will Pacquiao roll or will Cotto surprise?

See-saw continues for Texans, Colts stay perfect

Are they for real? Are they frauds? We’ve been asking these questions about the Houston Texans for a few seasons now. In 2009, we may finally see the Texans in a playoff game. Of course, they could be completely derailed by the undefeated Colts this week.

Eagles have too many playmakers for Cowboys

First place in the NFC East is on the line when the Eagles and Cowboys clash this Sunday. Both teams have been through up-and-down seasons, mixed with brilliant moments and brutal letdowns. A letdown in this game will prove costly when it comes to playoff positioning—or making the playoffs at all.

Houston offense will struggle in frigid Buffalo

The Texans and Bills each enter this matchup on two-game winning streaks. Both have playoff hopes but, in the uber-competitive AFC, this could be a make-or-break game—especially for the Bills. Who should online sports betting fans support in this one?

Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills
Sunday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET
NFL odds: Texans -3

The Texans are coming off a narrow victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Houston nearly squandered a 21-0 lead by allowing three second-half touchdowns, exemplifying how poorly this “D” is capable of playing. The defense was repeatedly burned by tight end Vernon Davis, who had 93 yards and three touchdowns, but at least the Bills don’t have a viable tight end threat to take advantage this week. If it’s not one thing, though, it’s another in Houston. No matter what happens, you know this unit is going to give up its fair share of points.

That’s why the offense must be efficient at all times to get a win. Although the Texans weren’t as explosive as usual, they committed just one turnover. Matt Schaub played a clean game, going 20-30 with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Schaub is the biggest reason to take Houston on sports picks on a regular basis and he leads the NFL in touchdown passes and passing yardage. His favorite target, Andre Johnson, is suffering through a bruised lung right now. He’s expected to play against Buffalo but who knows if he’ll go the distance.

49ers at Colts: Smith will lead Niners to cover, but not victory over Colts

San Francisco 49ers at Indianapolis Colts

Sun. November 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET

NFL odds: -11.5

With the sudden emergence of Alex Smith, this game has some intrigue on sports picks. The Niners lost a tight contest with Houston last week, but there were some serious positives—most notably Smith’s unexpected explosion. The former No. 1 overall pick subbed for the ineffective Shaun Hill and was, to be honest, very good. Smith threw three touchdown passes and brought San Fran back from a 21-0 deficit. He obviously has some chemistry with Vernon Davis, who caught all three scores, and rookie receiver Michael Crabtree enjoyed an excellent debut, catching five passes for 56 yards.

Speaking of former No. 1 overall picks, Peyton Manning is having another MVP-worthy season. He’s tossed 15 scores against just four interceptions during Indy’s 6-0 run, and Manning has surpassed the 300-yard mark in five of those victories. He’s yet to benefit from a particularly strong running game, which posses concerns long-term. For now, though, it’s the Peyton Manning show and nobody can stop it.

A few weeks ago, some sportsbook fans might have argued Mike Singletary’s defense could slow Manning, but the “D” has taken a turn for the worse. The 49ers allowed 21 first-half points to the Texans after getting blasted for 45 by the Falcons two weeks ago. San Francisco did tighten up in the second half against Houston, holding the explosive unit to a field goal.

Alleged Cable assault rules Jets-Raiders headlines

2009 World Series odds and an alleged criminal assault is threatening to overshadow this week’s Jets vs Raiders odds, as the New York Jets are in the Yankees’ shadow, while Oakland is battling just to keep its head coach on the sidelines, and out of a courtroom.

Jets vs Raiders odds – Sunday, October 25, 4:05 PM ET

The Jets are coming off a 16-13 overtime loss to Buffalo, and it’s a credit to the defense that it was even that close as Mark Sanchez was 10-of-29 for 119 yards and five picks. Sanchez played so badly that you’d think he was a part of a betting ring, and this was arguably the worst game of his entire football career. Thomas Jones ran for a career-high 210 yards and a score, and the defense forced two turnovers while holding the Bills to 296 yards. Sanchez should feel lucky that the Yankees are close to making the World Series, or else the city of New York may be asking for him to get indicted for being terrible.

Speaking of terrible, JaMarcus Russell may have earned a bit of relief as the Raiders won 13-9 over Philadelphia, and his 86-yard hookup with Zach Miller was the game’s only touchdown. However, take that completion away (and most of the work was done by Miller), and Russell was 16-of-27 for 138 yards and two picks, which is about par for the course for Russell. What’s more is that coach Tom Cable, whose alleged assault of an Oakland assistant coach may land him in hot legal water. There’ll be a press conference on Thursday at 5:00 PM ET to discuss this, but if you thought the Raiders’ NFL odds couldn’t get worse, think again.

2009 World Series Odds –Can Padilla save the Dodgers’ season in Philly?

The Dodgers’ 2009 World Series odds rest on the shoulders of 32-year-old Vicente Padilla, who has been Los Angeles’ best hurler in the playoffs so far. Padilla will head out on Wednesday trying to extend the Dodgers’ season as they’re down 3-1 to the defending World Series champs, and he’ll look to delay the celebration of a city where he almost spent six years.

Dodgers vs Phillies odds – Wednesday, October 21, 8:07 PM ET

Padilla (2-0, 0.63) hasn’t lost since joining the Dodgers on August 19th, and he earned the Phillies’ lone win in a 2-1 victory at home, allowing a run on four hits over 7.1 innings. Padilla also had six strikeouts and a single walk, and if you had told any online sports betting player that Vicente Padilla would be one of the best pitchers in the playoffs, you would have gotten a strange look. Padilla has made 26 starts at Citizens Bank Park, going 10-11 with a 4.98 ERA.

Cole Hamels (1-1, 6.97) celebrated the birth of his infant son with a victory in an 8-6 win during Game 1 of the NLCS. Last year’s World Series MVP gave up four runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings, and he was taken deep twice, but Hamels looked better than he did in a loss to Colorado in the NLDS. Hamels probably shouldn’t have started that game as his wife went into labor during the game, and he left immediately. When you have something like that on your mind, playoffs or not, step aside.

Ravens try to slow down Favre, Peterson

In terms of NFL Week 6 betting, there are a few intriguing clashes and one comes out of Minnesota, where the Vikings will try to remain undefeated when they host Baltimore, who have dropped two in a row.

Ravens vs Vikings odds – Sunday, October 18, 1:00 PM ET

The Ravens (3-2) were let down by uncharacteristic penalties in a 17-14 loss to Cincinnati, committing 10 of them, none more crucial than Ray Lewis’ personal foul on Chad Ochocinco. This is the second week in a row that the Ravens were killed by penalties, and they’ve seemed to have lost some of their discipline since Rex Ryan left for the New York Jets. Joe Flacco was 22of-31 for 186 yards and a touchdown, but he was also picked off twice, and the Ravens went away from the ground game that is so important to their sportsbook odds.

The Vikings cruised to a 38-10 win over St. Louis as Brett Favre was 18-of-24 for 232 yards, a touchdown and a pick, while Adrian Peterson ran for 69 yards and two scores. The Vikings’ defense, led again by Jared Allen, forced four turnovers out of the lowly Rams and Allen ran a fumble 52 yards for a score. The major difference came in the red zone, where the Vikings converted on all four of their opportunities, while the Rams were 0-for-4.
